  • William P. Janzen, Founder, President and CEO. Bill Janzen brings nearly twenty years of experience in innovative drug discovery during which he has been a leader in the field of high throughput screening for lead generation in startup and large pharmaceutical ventures. He also holds an appointment as Professor of the Practice and Director of Assay Development and Compound Profiling in the Center for Integrative Chemical Biology and Drug Discovery in the School of Pharmacy at UNC Chapel Hill. Prior to that, Bill was President and Chief Operating Officer of Amphora Discovery Sciences where he established and managed a unique drug discovery process based on microfluidic technologies, Director of Lead Generation Technologies and Operations and Chief Operating Officer of the RTP site of Eli Lilly and Company, and when Lilly acquired Sphinx Pharmaceuticals in 1994 he assumed responsibility for all HTS for Lilly. Bill Janzen has been extensively involved in the advancement of automated screening technologies and has been President and a Board Member of the Society for Biomolecular Screening.

  • Maria Sippola-Thiele, Ph.D., M.B.A., Founder, Chief Technology and Business Officer. Maria brings extensive biotechnology and business development expertise to Chaperone. Maria was a founding member of Novati Institute, L.L.C. and the Chief Executive Officer of Cytex Therapeutics, Inc. Previously, Maria was Assistant Dean for Business Development at the Duke University School of Medicine, where she is currently Adjunct Professor of Pharmacology and Cancer Biology, served as Assistant Director of the University of Michigan Medical School Office of Technology and Corporate Research and was Administrative Director of the University of Michigan Human Genome Center with Francis Collins. Maria has a Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, carried out Postdoctoral training at the National Cancer Institute and received an MBA from the University of Michigan Business School. Maria has served as a Board Member at Southeast TechInventions, Inc., Durham, NC, a member of the Biotechnology Industry Organization's Technology Transfer Subcommittee, Washington, DC, as a consultant to Technomedicum, University of Helsinki, Finland, and a member of the International Genomics Consortium, Intellectual Property Committee.
